Psalm 4:8I will both liedown in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make medwell in safety.  (NKJV)

The opening scripture was written by David, who always found rest in the Lord during his times of distress…  David knew the Lord as his protector and his provider…Psalm 18:2…   And David knew the Lord would hear his plea for mercy…  We see this very clearly, earlier in the Psalm, in…Psalm 4:3…  But know that the Lord has setapart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him.  (NKJV)

Indeed, Christians are set apart (sanctified) from the world, when they are born of God…1 John 5:4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—ourfaith.

Absolute peace is a gift from God, which the world will never be able to experience…  Jesus told us about the peace He would give to all believers, when Jesus was trying to console His disciples, after telling them He was going away to be with His Father in heaven…John 14:27Peace I leave with you, Mypeace I give to you; not as the world gives doI give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  (NKJV)

Isaiah 48:22There isno peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”  (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul gives the believers in Colossi this advice, in…Colossians 3:15…  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.  (NKJV)

We find in this scripture verse, my suggestion for a peaceful nights sleep…  Not only must a person be a Christian born from above (John 3:3), to have peace with God (Romans 5:1)…they must also let the peace of God rule in your hearts…  I personally believe the Christian cannot be grieving the Holy Spirit, with unconfessed sins in their heart…and expect to get a good nights sleep…  I personally seek the Lord’s forgiveness for any sins made during the day (1 John 1:9), every night before I set my head on the pillow…  Among many other things…I also ask the Lord for a good nights sleep, and for sweet dreams…

I must tell you that most times, when I find myself not being able to fall asleep, it’s when something comes to my mind that isn’t quite right in the sight of the Lord…  It may have been something I was led to do by the Holy Spirit that day…that slipped my mind, until I was reminded by Him, before I fall sleep…  Don’t ya know that as soon as I tell the Holy Spirit that I will do my best to fulfill His instructions the next day…I’m usually off to sleep like a baby…

People lose sleep primarily because of anxiety, or fears, or any other emotion that Satan will use to keep them from a God given peaceful nights sleep…  If the Christian submits their lives to God, and then confesses, repents, and turns from any sins that cause unrighteousness in God’s eyes…God promises to cleanse them of all unrighteousness…

1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from allunrighteousness.  (NKJV)

A life that remains submitted to the Lord will provide the Christian with the Holy Spirit’s power over Satan and his control…  We see God’s promises of this most clearly in…James 4:7-8Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Drawnear to God and He will drawnear to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  (NKJV)

Notice James is telling those who profess to love the Lord, but are harboring sin (you double-minded), to confess and repent of their sins and purifytheirhearts…

When the love of Christ totally occupies the heart of the Spirit filled Christian…Ephesians 3:17-19…there will be no room left for the lies and deceit that Satan will use to disrupt the rest that God wants all of His children to receive…Matthew 11:28…&…Acts 3:19…   Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blottedout, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, (NKJV)

I will close with one of my favorite scriptures from God’s Word…Philippians 4:6-7Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpassesallunderstanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I thank You and Praise You for the truth I find in Your Word…   I pray Lord, that Your peace, which surpassesallunderstanding, will fill the hearts and minds of all of Your children who let the peace of God rule in theirhearts…  And that peaceful, God given sleep will provide rest for their souls…Matthew 11:29…  I pray for this fullness of Christ, in all of our lives…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
