God’s Persistent Patience: Scripture Writing Plan March 2021
February 28, 2021Elihu
Patience is something many want to receive, but few want to practice.
Just imagine how awful it would be if the Lord did not extend patience to us!
In Acts 6, Luke introduces us to a man named Stephen who was, “full of faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6.5). He was willing to serve others and unafraid to speak the truth with boldness. As is so often the case, his willingness to stand for Christ (the ultimate Truth) angered the enemies of truth. He was falsely accused of speaking against Moses, the temple, the law, and even God! In response to these false accusations, Stephen gives them a “big picture” presentation on God’s patience towards his people. Throughout his lesson, Stephen reminds them how often the Israelites rejected their redeemers… and how God continued to show them love.
You and I are so fortunate to be loved by such a patient Father. Just as Stephen reminded his audience of God’s forbearance and their failure, his words should also caution us today. Will you and I accept the message God has sent to us through His Son, or will we reject it? Are you and I living like Stephen—boldly sharing the saving message of the cross—or do we only whisper about it while those around us shout against Christ?
As we write through Acts 6 and 7 this month, consider the unfailing love and astounding patience of our Heavenly Father. May He grant us wisdom to share the Word with those who are lost. May He continue to extend patience to us as we follow Him through this life.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3.9)
